Cycle - 4 hours - 11/28/2009
Just six of us out for today’s club ride. The morning’s forecast was for a wet and windy 5-6º so I wasn’t expecting too many people to make it to the cafe. James from from BC Bikes was on his first ride with us. Ken, Greig and Dyanne broke off at the top of Beddlested for a shorter ride while Mark, James and I continued down to Cowden and back via Bayley’s and Brasted.
The forecast showers didn’t materialise but the lanes were very wet and muddy after this week’s rain so I’m glad I had mudguards on. As ever, the Race Blades kept me quite clean but didn’t do much for the rider behind. Extra incentive then to take the lead and push the pace.
I felt good despite two nights of threshold intervals this week. After both sessions I had a recovery shake and then a big meal. It’s easy to forget that, along with exercise, the other two key elements of training are nutrition and rest. In the past I’ve tried skimping on post interval session meals in an attempt to lose weight. All that does is disrupt my sleep and make me crave biscuits and coffee the next day. Before long I’m showing the classic signs of overtraining and need to take a week off. Hardly the desired effect.
